Cardinals in the Community participate in the Woking Pancake Race
Cardinals in the Community were proud to be part of the annual Woking Pancake Race, joining local organisations, residents and businesses in the town centre for a fantastic day of community spirit and friendly competition.
The well-known Shrove Tuesday event once again brought the town together, with teams racing through the course while flipping pancakes along the way. Representing Cardinals in the Community were two teams – a staff team and an academy players team – both eager to take on the challenge.
Head of Community George Doré explained why it’s so important for Cardinals in the Community to support events like this.
“It’s a really successful and well-known event in Woking. It’s important for us as Cardinals in the Community to be here so people can see who we are and what we do.”
George also highlighted how the organisation was represented on the day.
“We’ve got two teams representing CITC. We’ve got a staff team with myself and three other community staff members, and we’ve also got a players’ team from our academy first years. One of the players has actually been with us since under-9s and is now under-17s, so it’s great to see him giving his time back to the local community.”
Events like the Pancake Race also provide a great opportunity for Cardinals in the Community to strengthen relationships across the borough.
“These events are really important because they help with networking and building strong relationships with other local organisations. It allows us to share ideas and potentially create new events for the local community in the future.”
For first year captain Luke Manly, who has been involved with the club from the age of 9 and is a big Woking FC supporter, the day meant a lot.
“As I’ve been here from such a young age, it’s good to see the club giving back to the community. It’s great seeing kids get involved in sessions and seeing people around the town supporting the club.”
Another first year scholar, Josh, also enjoyed taking part in the race and soaking up the atmosphere.
“I think it was a really good event. A lot of people showed up and I had a really good time.”
When asked about his own performance, Josh admitted the pancake-flipping took some getting used to.
“I think I was a little bit slow, but I’ve never flipped a pancake before, so it was alright actually!”
Cardinals in the Community would like to thank the organisers for putting together another fantastic event and for giving local organisations the opportunity to be part of such a fun day in Woking.
We look forward to returning next year – and hopefully improving our pancake-flipping technique!
